Below is an interview with EwMM student Jiyean Koh
EWMMI Global Voice: Hello, thanks for your joining us for this interview! Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
Jiyean koh: Hi there! Well to begin, my name is Jiyean koh and I was born in here in Jeju island, Korea. I remember as a child, I was quite perky and a peculiar girl who liked to draw animation characters. I am the youngest in my family, and I don’t think anyone really expected me to be good in any specific fields of studying.
EWMMI Global Voice: Can you tell us about your family?
Jihyean koh: My father is Takhyun Kah and he is the general manager of KCTV- Jeju Do. My mother is Eunah Jin.
Unlike the typical Korean parents who are usually very passionate about their children’s education, my parent’s didn’t pressure me to study. I remember my parents’ one ultimate wish was just growing as a healthy and sound person. They didn’t even enroll me in any kind of academy’s which is usually very prevailed in Korea.
EWMMI Global Voice: Interesting. How did that affect you later on?
Jihyean koh: Well, as a result, I became an elementary school student without any early education. As I grew up, I had many troubles making friends and some of my classmates used to tease me. That’s when I started having this desire and eagerness to excel and be good at something. I wanted to show them how good I was.
It’s a natural desire for any kid, and being the type that liked to get good public attention from others, it triggered my inner potential I didn’t know existed.
EWMM Global Voice: How did you try to develop your potential and skills?
Jihyean koh: I read a lot of books to develop my potentials, and I think books made me discover how I should live my life.
EWMM Global Voice: How did studying at this English Institute help you achieve your dreams?
Jihyean koh: Thankfully now, in my age of 16, I met English with Mary Moore and I am able to speak English better than ever. Because of this I have been chosen as a representative of my highschool for International Youth Forum.
My homeroom teacher trusts what I do and respects my dream and I am dreaming to go to Seoul National University. Seoul National University is the most prestigious college of Korea and I am proud that I can dream to go there.
Thank you, English With Mary Moore for helping me to recognize my dreams, and most of all, for helping me get there.
EWMM Global Voice: Thank you too, for being a part of English With Mary Moore, we hope to help you every day to bring you closer to your goals!
Jiyean koh has been a student of English with Mary Moore for one and a half years and continues to be a valued student here in our community.
